To make mochi soft, you do not even need to boil mochi in a pot. It is a lot simpler than you think. Just place a piece of mochi in a microwavable bowl with water and warm it up in a microwave for a few minutes (or until mochi becomes soft). Use a bigger container to cook mochi for a whole family.

餅を 角切りにして竹串に刺して、茹でるか焼く。
タレ 砂糖-大3、みりんー大2、しょうゆー大3、水ー大3、片栗粉と水ー各大1/2
Mochi with sweet soy sauce – Snack or desert
3 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp mirin (sweat cooking rice wine)
3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp water
½ tbsp katakuriko powder (potato starch)
Cut mochi in a bite size. Skewer a bite size mochi with bamboo skewers and grill it in a toaster oven or boil it in a pan.
Mix the ingredients in a bowl and warm it up in a microwave.
Dip grilled or boiled mochi in a sauce.

Grilled mochi with white sesame paste – Snack or desert
4 tbsp grounded white sesame seeds
3 tbsp sugar
1 ½ tbsp white miso
Grill mochi in a toaster oven until it starts to bulge. Meanwhile, mix the ingredients in a bowl. Boil some water in a medium pot. Dip grilled mochi in the hot water and cover with sesame sauce.
Grilled mochi with natto sauce – Refreshing appetizer
1 pack natto fermented soy beans
1 tbsp grated daikon white radish
½ tbsp soy sauce
Pour natto sauce mix on grilled or boiled mochi.
Mochi with kimchi pickle and seaweed sheet – Hot and spicy appetizer
Add finely shredded kimchi and seasoned seaweed sheet on grilled mochi.
Mochi with grated daikon white radish and ponzu citrus juice - Refreshing appetizer
Pour a grated daikon white radish and ponzu citrus juice mix on mochi
Mochi wrapped in bacon (or thin sliced pork) with sukiyaki sauce
Wrap each mochi in half a strip of bacon (or sliced pork) and secure with a wooden toothpick. Place in a baking pan and bake it until bacon is done. Serve with sukiyaki sauce..
味噌ー50g、酒ー大1、みりんー小2、砂糖ー大1、くるみー20g

Mochi with sweet walnut paste
4 tbsp miso
1 tbsp cooking rice wine
2 small tbsp mirin (sweat cooking rice wine)
2 tbsp roughly crushed walnut
Mix miso, rice wine, mirin and walnut in a bowl. Spread the walnut sauce on mochi and grill it in a toaster oven or baking pan.

2 tbsp finely shredded kimchi
1 tbsp cream cheese
2 tbsp mayo

Grill mochi in a toaster oven until start to bulge. Meanwhile, mix the ingredients in a bowl. Garnish mochi with the sauce and serve.
さつまいも200を皮をむいて輪切りにして茹でる。お湯を少し残して、切ったもちを上に載せて柔らかくなったら残った湯を捨てて、砂糖大1、バター小1、塩少々を入れてつぶして滑らかになるまで混ぜる。まるめて黒ゴマキナコ+砂糖をふる。
Mochi with sweet potato
Sweet potato
1 tbsp sugar
1 small tbsp butter
A pinch of salt
Kinako soybean flour with black sesame powder and additional sugar for topping
Peal skin from sweet potato and cut in small pieces. Bring sweet potato to a boil in a pot. Leave small amount of hot water at the bottom of pot and discard the rest of hot water. Heat mochi on sweet potato until mochi gets soft. Discard all hot water and mix sugar, butter and salt in the pot. Stir sweet potato and mochi until smooth. Make sweet potato and mochi into ball and garnish with kinako soybean flour and sugar before serve.

Mochi wrap in fried tofu skin
Cut fried tofu skin in half crosswise and fill it with mochi like pita "pocket" bread. Bring it to a boil in udon noodle soup.

Are you hungry at night? Or do you have hangover from a night before and are you looking for cure? Try chazuke. It is hot and filling. Chazuke is a rice dish where hot green tea is poured over cooked white rice with toppings such as salmo, pickled plum, wasabi, seeweed sheet. Place toasted mochi on cooked white rice. Put on the toppings and pour over hot green tea (or dashi soup). Quick way is to use ready-made ochazuke packets from companies like Nagatanien, which come in flavors such as pickled plum, salmon, wasabi.

Seasoned steamed rice with mochi (takikomi gohan)
This is the rice cooked along with assorted vegetables and sometimes meat or seafood. To cook it simply, get a box of seasoned rice premix which is available in different variety and simply follow the instruction printed on the box. Replace a part of rice with finely cut mochi to experience unique texture.

Grill mochi and put one or any combination of the following toppings: "sushi taro" chirashi-sushi premix, natto fermented soybean, finely chopped green onion, seaweed "ao nori" flake, dried bonito flake, soy sauce, "shichimi" chill powder, grated daikon white radish, sesame oil.

A pack of natto fermented soy bean is available with many different types of sauce. Among them, "grated daikon white radish" and "green aoshiso perilla leaf", in particular, go well with mochi. Mix natto with pre-packaged sauce and pour it over mochi. Garnish with kaiware daikon white radish sprouts.

5 sheets of sushi nori seaweed
1 large cucumber
2 to 3 avocados
Fresh squeezed lemon juice
Imitation crab sticks
Cut cucumber into long, slender strips.
Cut avocados into long, slender strips. Sprinkle the sliced avocado with lemon juice to keep from discoloring.
Remove the plastic wrapping from imitation crab sticks and cut each in half lengthwise.
Spread mochi on nori seaweed in a thin layer.
Arrange strips of crab meat., avocado and cucumber on the mochi and roll it ln hand roll style.
Mochi gunkan-maki with fried squid or fried shrimp
Gunkan-maki is a unique shape of sushi roll. It has an oval shape where sushi rice that has a narrow piece of nori seaweed wrapped around its side to form a boat shape.
Use mochi instead of sushi rice and top it with fried squid or fried shrimp.
醤油を塗ったあと塩昆布をのせて海苔で巻く。 焼きおにぎりみたいでおいしい。
Grilled mochi
Do you like grilled rice ball (yaki onigiri)? Then you may like this one, too. Grill mochi in toaster oven until it starts to puff up. Wrap mochi and seasoned kelp with seaweed sheet.

Mix dried wakame seaweed, chicken soup stock and mochi with a pinch of black pepper. Heat it up in a microwave until it brings to a boil.

Put chicken, hakusai leaf and shiitake mushroom in a pot and bring it to a boil. Turn off fire and mix curry paste. Stir well. Then add mochi and cook it in slow fire until mochi becomes soft.

Mix all ingredients in a pot and bring it to a boil. Add mochi and cook it in slow fire until mochi becomes soft.

All you like it Pizza – Okonomiyaki with mochi
Mix flour and water in a bowl to make batter. Add thin sliced pork, chopped cabbage, tempura crumb (crunchy bits of deep fried flour dough), dried shrimp and bite-size mochi in the batter and stir well. Pour mixture on the hot pan. Once one side of the batter cooked thoroughly, use spatulas to flip it onto the other side. When both sides of the okonomiyaki are cooked, apply okonomiyaki sauce and mayo. Sprinkle shaved bonito and aonori seaweed flake.

Add daikon white radish, shimeji mushroom, ginnan Gingko nuts, frozen Japanese vegetable mix, cooking rice wine, sweet rice wine, soy sauce, katakuriko potato starch and water in a microwavable bowl. Cook it in a microwave until well done. Add mochi and cook for extra few miniutes. Garnish with wasabi if you like.

Mix dashi soup stock with water in a microwavable bowl. Add pumpkin, daikon white radish, frozen Japanese vegetable mix. Cook it in a microwave until well done. Add miso paste and mochi. Stir well. Add mochi and cook for extra few miniutes. Sprinkle finely chopped green onion.

Slice fried tofu skin into long, slender strips. Warm up fried tofu skin strip and mochi in a microwave until mochi becomes soft. Mix grated daikon white radish, ponzu citrus juice and soy souce to make sauce. Pour sauce over fried tofu skin strip and mochi.

Gyoza Chinese dumpling soup with mochi
Mix frozen gyoza dumpling, dried wakame seaweed, cooking rice wine and chicken soup stock with water in a microwavable bowl and heat up in microwave until gyoza dumpling is well cooked. Add mochi and cook for extra few minutes until mochi becomes soft.

パワーアップ! 豚キムチ餅入り
豚肉、キムチ、ニラ
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 cups chopped kimchi
½ pounds thin sliced pork
1 tbsp garlic, peeled and crushed
1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
½ teaspoon red chili pepper flake
A bunch of nira chive or green onion, cut into 2" pieces
Grounded black pepper
Heat a wok, add vegetable oil and stir fry pork for a couple of minutes.
Add grounded black pepper.
Add nira chive (or green onion) and toss them.
Add kimchi, garlic, and red chili pepper.
Stir fry for a couple of more minutes until well done.
Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds.
Note: No need to add extra salt because kimchi is already salty.
